Notice of Reserve Trader Decision for summer 2008/09

As of 29 August 2008 MT PASA is showing a shortage of reserves of the order of 168 MW in the Victorian Region during late January and February 2009.  During this period there are no planned outages of relevant generating capacity and thus NEMMCO has given consideration to the need to commence reserve trading for this period through the RERT process.

Based upon the current forecasts of demand, energy and generation availability, NEMMCO has decided not to commence reserve trading for the summer of 2008-2009.

The reasons for this decision are:

  • MT PASA results are tending to be overly conservative under the expected conditions for Summer 2008/2009 ; and
  • Other studies forecast expected reliability levels to be within (ie better than) the Reliability Standard

Further details are provided in the attached document.
