Market Outcomes: The Tasmanian region experienced an energy price of $1509.63/MWh at trading interval ending 17:30hrs on Saturday, 17 May 2008. Energy and Frequency Control Ancillary Service (FCAS) prices in other NEM regions were not affected.
Principal Contributors: Tasmanian generators shifted their energy capacity from the mid price bands to bands priced at either less than $5/MWh or more than $7000/MWh from DI 17:05hrs. At dispatch interval (DI) ending 17:20hrs, a constraint equation managing the flow on the Farrell to Sheffield 220kV lines bound. Several cheaper Tasmanian generators on the west coast were constrained off while a higher priced generator (Gordon) set the price. Basslink was reversing its flow direction towards Victoria at the time.
Market Performance: Outcomes appear to be consistent with the dispatch offers and power system conditions during the event.
