NEMMCO publishes its annual Statement of Opportunities (SOO) in October each year, and an update to the SOO is published the following January.
On the 20th of April 2006 the AEMC amended the National Electricity Rules, removing the requirement on NEMMCO to publish an annual update to the SOO every January, and imposing an ongoing information disclosure regime instead. Full details of the rule change are available from the AEMC website.
NEMMCO must now publish as soon as practicable significant information it has become aware of regarding changes to:
- regional energy and demand forecasts;
- the capability, retirement or status of existing or committed generation units; and
- national transmission flow paths, or to projects that will affect the capacity of these flow paths.
NEMMCO receives advice regarding information in the SOO from a range of parties, including Registered Participants, the Jurisdictional Planning Bodies and the Inter-regional Planning Committee.
In order for NEMMCO to publish information updating the SOO these parties will need to bring any new information to NEMMCO's attention. To facilitate the provision of SOO update information , NEMMCO will establish a new email address: soo_update@nemmco.com.au.
Upon receipt of significant new information updating the SOO NEMMCO will release a SOO Update Notice, which will include all significant changes since the publication of the previous SOO.
