Each year, NEMMCO receives regional energy consumption and maximum demand projections, for a 10-year outlook period, from the NEM Jurisdictional Planning Bodies (JPBs).
The SOO is published in October, some four months after the energy and demand projections for the respective edition of the SOO are finalised. Therefore, in the interests of providing new information to the market in a timely manner, NEMMCO is publishing this information now.
NEMMCO's, 2008 Statement of Opportunities (SOO)/ Annual National Transmission Statement (ANTS) will use these projections to assess the regional supply demand balance and the adequacy of the transmission network respectively. The Medium-Term Projected Assessment of System Adequacy (MTPASA) adopted the new projections as of 1 July 2008. Information on MT PASA can be found at:
http://www.nemweb.com.au/REPORTS/CURRENT/Medium_Term_PASA_Reports/
It is also important to note that during June 2008, the JPBs published regional energy and demand projections in their Annual Planning Reviews (APR).
In developing the 2008 energy and demand projections, NEMMCO engaged the National Institute of Economic and Industrial Research (NIEIR) to develop common high-level economic information across the JPBs and to provide additional economic data. NIEIR's reports are contained on this webpage.
